Housing Committee to resume examination of Credit Union financing for social housing

4 Jul 2017, 17:15

The Joint Committee on Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government will meet tomorrow at 9.30am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

The meeting will see the Committee return to its analysis of Credit Union finance for social housing.

Officials from the Department of Finance and the Central Bank of Ireland will appear before the Committee.

Committee Chair, Maria Bailey TD, said today: “This will be our second meeting on the topic of Credit Union finance for social housing. The Central Bank are currently undertaking a review of the investment regulations to consider whether it is appropriate and prudent to facilitate investment by credit unions in other classes of investments, such as social housing. Tomorrow’s meeting will focus in particular on the potential expansion of additional investment class in Tier 3 Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs), which are privately operated, non-profit organisations focused solely on providing social housing.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
