Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs to meet with Chairs Designate of Heritage Council & Manuscripts Commission

Cathaoirleach of the Committee Peadar Tóibín said: “We look forward to our engagement tomorrow with Michael Parsons, Chair Designate, The Heritage Council and Professor John McCafferty, Chair Designate, Irish Manuscripts Commission

“Those who are being proposed for appointment as chairpersons of State boards are now required to make themselves available to the appropriate Oireachtas Committee. Tomorrow, we will have our first opportunity to engage with Mr Parsons and Professor McCafferty on what they see are the priorities and challenges for the Heritage Council and Irish Manuscripts Commission respectively. Committee members will also have a chance to raise any issues they may have regarding both organisations.

“The Committee does not have a blocking role in these appointments and following the discussion tomorrow, decisions will be taken by the Minister or the Government, as appropriate, to confirm Mr Parsons as chairperson of The Heritage Council and Professor McCafferty as chairperson of the Irish Manuscripts Commission.”
