Justice & Equality Committee to focus on Wards of Court

10 Oct 2017, 13:07

Wards of Court will be on the agenda of the Joint Committee on Justice and Equality tomorrow, Wednesday, 11 October 2017.

The schedule for the meeting is:

Agenda: Wards of Court

Session A - 9 a.m. [Justice for Wards Group]
Session B - 9.45 a.m. [The Courts Service]

Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin, TD, said: “Wards of court are people judged by a court to be incapable of managing their own financial affairs. The High Court may provide wardship to a person who, whether by reason of mental capacity or infancy, is deemed by the court to be incapable of managing his/her affairs for him/herself. The principal purpose of wardship is to protect the property of the ward and to manage it for his or her benefit and that of his or her dependants if they have any. Tomorrow, the Committee will discuss the operation of the wards of court system with the Justice for Wards Group and the Courts Service.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2 at 9am on Wednesday, 11 October 2017.
