Housing Committee to resume PLS on Building Control Bill

The meeting will take place in two sessions:

Session A: Ms. Orla Hegarty UCD, Ms. Deirdre Ní Fhloinn Trinity College

Session B: Representatives from the Construction Industry Federation and the CIRI Admissions & Registration Board.

Committee Chairperson, Maria Bailey TD said, “The Building Control Bill will place the Construction Industry Register Ireland (CIRI) on a statutory footing and provide in law for the registration of building contractors and specialist sub-contractors. At our meeting tomorrow, the Committee will examine the bill to see if it will meet its policy objectives. The Committee looks forward to engaging directly with the current CIRI board to discuss how they see this piece of draft legislation enhancing the current system and how placing the board on a legislative footing will increase compliance in the construction sector. We will also hear from Orla Hegarty, who is a registered architect and Deirdre Ní Fhloinn from TCD, who will brief us on the area of recourse for consumers who have a negative experience with their builder(s).”

At 2.15pm, the Select Committee will meet in Committee Room 4 to resume its consideration of the Water Services Bill 2017 with the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government.
