Agriculture Committee to discuss motion on Horse & Greyhound Racing Fund Regulations 2017

The Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund will be on the agenda when the Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine meets tomorrow at 4.30pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

Michael Creed TD, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine will appear before the Committee to discuss the motion relating to the Statutory Instrument from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine which aims to raise the ceiling on the Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund in order to allow the State funding provided for in the Budget to be disbursed to the horse and greyhound racing industries in 2018.

The proposed increase of €80m is the amount provided for the Fund in Budget 2018.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Chair, Pat Deering TD, said today, “The horse and greyhound racing industries receive financial support from the State through the Horse and Greyhound Racing Fund. State funding provided through the Fund is pivotal to the survival of the industries. Tomorrow we will discuss the motion with the Minister and  engage with him on the reasons for this increase in expenditure for the Fund.”
