PAC to resume its examination of management of ancillary services in Garda College

The Public Accounts Committee will resume its examination of management of ancillary services in thew Garda College at its meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 23 November 2017.

The schedule for tomorrow’s meeting is:

(i) 9.00 am Session A: Discussion on reopening of Garda Stations
Session B: C&AG Report 2016
Chapter 12: Management of Ancillary Services at the Garda Training College
(ii) 2.30 pm Business of the Committee

Committee Chairman Seán Fleming said: “Tomorrow, the Committee will focus on the C&AG Report on the management of ancillary services at the Garda College in Templemore. The Committee will meet with senior members of An Garda Síochána, including Acting Garda Commissioner Dónall Ó Cualáin, to discuss financial controls, compliance and how corporate governance is exercised in relation to the College.

The Committee will be keen to establish what progress has been made to date in implementing the recommendations in the C&AG report and if a plan of specific actions has been put in place to implement the interim internal audit report and the C&AG’s recommendations.

According to An Garda Síochána, a new interim Principal Administrator at the grade of Principal Officer has been appointed to manage all administrative functions in the college and new structures are being established in line with the recommendations of the report. We will be seeking further information on the establishment of new structures as recommended in the interim report and a timetable for completion of the work.

At the start of our meeting, the Committee will also discuss the reopening of Garda Stations.”

This PAC meeting will start in Committee Room 3 at 9am on Thursday, 23 November 2017.
