5 Dec 2017, 11:09

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will focus on the Fiscal Assessment Report with representatives from the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council at its meeting torrow, Wednesday 6 December.

Committee Vice Chair John Lahart said: “The role of the Committee on Budgetary Oversight is to hold the government to account for Budget decisions, to scrutinise the macro-economic position, and to monitor areas of fiscal risk.

On Wednesday, the Committee will meet with the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council to consider its latest Fiscal Assessment Report on Budget 2018 which assessed the Government’s macro-economic forecasts, the fiscal stance and compliance with budget rules.

The Committee will engage with IFAC on a number of issues identified in the report. These include: the Rainy Day Fund, and the quality of some revenue-raising measures in Budget 2018.  The Committee also plans to discuss risks to the economy, including the future potential for overheating, possible shortcomings in how we measure sustainable growth, and the risks posed by a Hard Brexit.”

This meeting will start in Committee Room 2, Leinster House at 2pm on Wednesday, 6 December 2017. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
