Employment Affairs & Social Protection Committee to continue hearings labour activation measures

24 Jan 2018, 15:44

The Joint Committee on Employment Affairs and Social Protection will continue its hearings on labour activation measures at its meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 25 January 2018.

Committee Chairman John Curran said: “Labour activation measures were a key issue identified and prioritised by the Committee in our work programme. To date, we have heard from the Department, IBEC, SIPTU, INOU and the Labour Market Council in relation to delivering activation places and opportunities, incentivising the take-up of opportunities through back-to-work education and training so that unemployed people are better prepared to take advantage of opportunities for employment. Tomorrow, the Committee will hear from Dr Mary Murphy from NUI Maynooth. A senior lecturer in Sociology at Maynooth, whose research interests include, public policy, labour market and social security, power and civil society, and gender, Dr Murphy has huge experience in this field and will present to the Committee on the subject of labour activation. We will also hear from Joan O'Donnell, Development Manager with the Disability Federation of Ireland. The Committee will be particularly interested to hear evidence pertaining to disability and labour activation.”

This meeting will start at 10.30am on Thursday, 25 January 2018 in Committee Room 4, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
