Housing Committee to consider reclassification of Approved Housing Bodies

7 Feb 2018, 10:09

The Joint Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government will meet tomorrow at 9.30am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and examine the reclassification of the Tier 3 Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs).

Housing Committee Chair, Maria Bailey TD said today, “AHBs play a major role in the delivery of social housing, in line with the policy and targets set out in the Rebuilding Ireland Action Plan. The CSO’s decision recently that 14 of the 15 Tier 3 AHBs should be reclassified in their entirety onto the State balance sheet is a significant one as it would mean that some housing associations would be reclassified as government bodies. Housing associations have expressed concern that the decision could impact on delivery of social housing, so tomorrow we will explore the impact this decision will have.”
