Communications Climate Action & Environment Committee continues hearings on National Broadband Plan

14 Feb 2018, 13:56

The Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment will continue its hearings on the National Broadband Plan when it meets with officials from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and The Environment on Thursday, 15 February 2018.

Committee Chair Hildegarde Naughton said: “Tomorrow, we will resume our hearings on the National Broadband Plan. We will meet with officials from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and the Environment to discuss the future of the plan, particularly in light of Eir’s recent decision to withdraw its bid for the national rural broadband scheme. While one bidder remains for the contract, concerns have been raised over the future implementation of the scheme and the timescale for rolling out fibre and connecting homes and businesses in rural Ireland. Tomorrow, the Committee will look forward to getting clarity on the issue so that rural communities can look forward to receiving a broadband solution in a timely, cost-effective and efficient manner.”

This meeting will start at 10am, tomorrow, Thursday, 15 February 2018 in Committee Room 4, Leinster House.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here and can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
