Justice & Equality Committee to consider Multi-Party Actions Bill 2017

20 Feb 2018, 14:13

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will carry out detailed scrutiny of the Multi-Party Actions Bill 2017 [PMB] on Wednesday, 21 February 2018.

Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said: “This Bill provides for certain procedural and other changes in civil actions to allow the bringing of Multi-Party Actions – otherwise known as class actions - and to reduce the cost of litigation. Tomorrow, we will conduct detailed scrutiny of the Bill when we will hear from a number of interested parties from the legal field. Appearing before the Committee will be representatives from FLAC, Coleman Legal Partners and Dr Joanne Blennerhassett, a lecturer in the School of Law at UCD who has written extensively on the issue of multi-party actions.”

The meeting will take place at 9am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House on Wednesday 21 February.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
