Officials from three Government Departments will outline policy approaches to tackling childhood obesity at Wednesday’s meeting of the Joint Committee on Children and Youth Affairs.

Officials from the Departments of Children and Youth Affairs, Health, and Education and Skills are expected to begin their opening statements at 10 a.m. in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House.

The meeting can be viewed live here and on Android and Apple devices using the Houses of the Oireachtas app.

Witnesses include a principal officer from the Early Years Policy and Research Unit in the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, the director of the Health and Wellbeing Programme at the Department of Health, and a principal officer in the Department of Education and Skills.

The Committee has held eight meetings since March on tackling childhood obesity in Ireland and discussed the challenge with sports bodies, TV programmers and advertisers, healthy eating advocates, researchers, parents and teacher organisations.
