Agriculture Committee to meet newly appointed chairs of Teagasc, Bord na gCon

22 Oct 2018, 15:58

The newly appointed chairmen of Teagasc and Bord na gCon will discuss their ambitions for the two semi-state bodies on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

The meeting at 3:30 p.m. in Committee Room 1 can be viewed live here and on Android and Apple devices using the Houses of the Oireachtas app.

Addressing the Committee are

  • Liam Herlihy, Chairman of agri-food research authority Teagasc, and
  • Frank Nyhan, Chairman of Bord na gCon, the Irish Greyhound Board.

“The Committee welcomes this early chance to meet both chairs following their respective appointments last month,” said Committee Chairman Pat Deering TD. “Teagasc plays a critical role in driving innovation and best practice in the agri-foods industry, and Bord na gCon for 60 years has led the way in developing greyhound racing as a popular sport and pastime across Ireland.”

Separately, the Committee will meet Agriculture Minister Michael Creed to continue their examination of the Aquaculture Licensing Review process. They will discuss progress on delivering the recommendations of the Aquaculture Licensing Review Group’s report published last year.
