Justice Committee to scrutinise General Scheme of Gender Pay Gap Information Bill

20 Nov 2018, 12:54

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will conduct pre-legislative scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Gender Pay Gap Information Bill on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 9 a.m.

Joining the Committee to discuss provisions of the proposed law will be representatives from

  • The National Women’s Council,
  • Irish Congress of Trade Unions and
  • Irish Business and Employers Confederation.

“The proposals would require larger employers to publish details showing whether a gender pay gap exists within their work force and, if so, the scale of differential in pay between men and women,” said Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD. “This would be an important commitment for advancing equality in the workplace and all the more significant coming in the centenary year of the formal recognition of women’s voting rights.

“Committee members will be interested to explore with witnesses the ideal regulatory framework for ensuring the most effective disclosure and accurate measurement of gender pay gap data, and the means of enforcement to ensure employer compliance,” Deputy Ó Caoláin said.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live here.
