Budgetary Oversight Committee to discuss health spending overruns, cost controls

6 Dec 2018, 18:03

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will explore the reasons for recurring health spending overruns and economists’ recent calls for stronger spending controls on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 4 p.m.

The Committee will discuss these issues with officials from the Department of Health and the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.

“Since July the Committee has been raising the issue of health budget overruns. We recently have received significant briefings from the Parliamentary Budget Office and the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council offering their perspectives on this recurring problem,” said Committee Chairman Colm Brophy TD. “The Committee will discuss the issue of budgetary oversight and management of health expenditure with officials from the two Departments most directly involved in this matter.”

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live here.
