Justice Committee to hear about the regulation and control of the gambling sector

16 Apr 2019, 10:15

Tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9am, the Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will meet to discuss the topic of the regulation of gambling, with two witnesses due to appear.

The Minister of State, David Stanton, will initially attend until 9.45, to give an update on the Government’s legislative plans in respect of regulations and control of the gambling sector.

Associate Professor Crystal Fulton of UCD will appear at 9.45 for a general discussion on the same topic.

Ahead of the meeting Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said:  “It is crucial that the comprehensive regulation of the gambling sector in Ireland happens, and soon. In recent years there have been enormous changes in gambling, including in the area of online betting.

“There are many areas for discussion, including underage gambling, the online sector, gambling addiction and sponsorship-related matters. The regulation of the sector must move with the times.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live here.
