Climate Action Committee to discuss EU Commission strategy for climate action

15 May 2019, 15:42

The Joint Committee on Climate Action will meet tomorrow to discuss ‘A clean planet for all’, the new EU Long Term Strategy for climate neutral economy.

Mr Mauro Petriccione, Director-General for Climate Action at the European Commission, will appear before the Committee.

Committee Chair, Hildegarde Naughton TD, said today, “The ‘Clean Planet for all’ strategy aims to assist policy making across Europe, helping to reduce the global temperature increase to 1.5 °C. This reduction could help avoid some of the worst climate impacts, including extreme weather events. Our Committee is keen to engage with the Director General on the Commission’s plans for implementing the strategy across Member States. Our report, published in March of this year, highlighted the urgent need to take strong and ambitious action to address global warming. We look forward to hearing from the Director General on how Ireland can be a leader in this.”

The meeting will start at 3pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House
