Committee on Children and Youth Affairs to hear from Ombudsman for Children on impact of homelessness on children

18 Jun 2019, 18:10

The Joint Committee on Children and Youth Affairs will resume its discussion on the impact of homelessness on children, tomorrow, Wednesday, 19 June at 10am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

The Ombudsman for Children, Dr. Niall Muldoon and the Children’s Rights Alliance are due to appear before the Committee tomorrow morning.

Committee Chairman, Deputy Alan Farrell, said: “We welcome the opportunity to hear from the Ombudsman for Children on the impact of homelessness on children. The Ombudsman’s office recently published a report, No Place Like Home, on the experience of children living in family hubs.

“The Children’s Rights Alliance, which has more than 100 members, completed a report, Home Works, which was launched a year ago, examining the educational needs of children experiencing homelessness.

“We, as a State, have a responsibility to protect all our children in every manner possible. This includes the 3,794 children who are experiencing homelessness.”
