Committee on Budgetary Oversight to discuss Summer Economic Statement with Minister

2 Jul 2019, 14:00

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will tomorrow, Wednesday, hear from the Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform, Mr Paschal Donohoe T.D at 2pm in Committee Room 2.

Minister Donohoe will discuss theSummer Economic Statement which was announced last Tuesday, 25 June and proposed a single budget programme to deal with two different scenarios later this year.

The first in which there is an orderly Brexit and Britain keeps its current trading relationship with the EU; the second, a no-deal disorderly Brexit, which causes job and tax losses, and additional demands on the social welfare system.

“The Minister has already indicated that Budget 2020 will involve a package worth €2.8 billion, and of this, over €2.1 billion will be committed to current and capital spending plans, with a limited allocation for budget day itself on 8 October” explained Committee Chairman Colm Brophy TD.

“Committee members will have questions for the Minister regarding the make up of Budget 2020, and how a number of Brexit possibilities may impact on the Budget.”
