The Joint Health Committee will meet the Disability Federation of Ireland and The Wheel, tomorrow to review the recommendations of the Independent Review Group report on the Role of Voluntary organisations in Health and Social Services.
The Joint Committee hearing will take place in Leinster House, Committee Room 3 from 9am. Representatives from Epilepsy Ireland will also make a submission at the hearing.
Disability Federation of Ireland is the national support organisation for (120+) voluntary disability organisations in Ireland who provide services to people with disabilities and disabling conditions.
The Wheel is Ireland’s national association of community and voluntary organisations, charities and social enterprises, with over 1,600 member organisations, who together employ over 35,000 people and involve over 45,000 volunteers in delivering services and supports every day right across the country.
Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee chair, Dr Michael Harty said: “We look forward to hearing their ideas on how they can work together with the State in the future in continuing to deliver a quality service. We need to find a new funding model that moves away from an incremental approach that uses last years allocation as a base to one where there is a value placed on a specific quantum of services that are needed to deliver a better health outcome for some of the most needy in our society . That will only work if there is a better relationship between the voluntary sector and the HSE and that is something where we want to see progress in the months ahead”.
