25 Sep 2019, 15:07

Representatives of Nobel Peace Prize nominated, integrated education groups will appear before the Joint Committee on Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement Committee, tomorrow, 26 September, in Leinster House, Committee Room 4 at 2.15pm.

The Integrated Education Fund (IEF) and the Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education (NICIE) were jointly nominated for the prestigious peace prize in July.

NICIE was formed in 1987 as a charitable organisation to co-ordinate efforts to develop Integrated education and support parents through the process of opening new schools.

The IEF was set up in 1992, as a charity, to provide a financial foundation for the development and growth of Integrated education in Northern Ireland.

Speaking before the meeting, Committee chairman Seán Crowe TD said: “Our Committee wants to congratulate both groups on their Nobel prize nomination, which recognises the powerful work education plays in peace building.

“We are delighted to welcome representatives from both the Integrated Education Fund and Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education to our meeting to hear about their ground-breaking work on integrated education.”

Proceedings from the Committee can be viewed live here.
