Joint Committee on Justice and Equality to consider online harassment and harmful communications

The Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will tomorrow (Wednesday) begin a series of meetings on online harassment and harmful communications.

Beginning at 9am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House, TDs and Senators will hear submissions from An Garda Síochána, ISPCC Childline, Rape Crisis Network Ireland and Professor Joe Carthy, Director of the UCD Centre for Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Investigation.

Ahead of the meeting Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said: “This is the first in a series of meetings to discuss the problem of online harassment, harmful communications and related offences. Over the coming weeks we will hear a range of experts, including investigators, child protection specialists and social media companies, on how these issues can be tackled.”
