Joint Committee on Public Petitions to consider a range of petitions including one seeking retirement at 60 for people on long-term unemployment or disability benefit

19 Nov 2019, 17:12

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) to consider a range of petitions, including one seeking the introduction of an early retirement option for people receiving long-term unemployment benefit or disability benefit who are aged 60 years or older.

The meeting at 1.30pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House will also consider petitions seeking harmonisation of annual leave for all personnel in the public sector and the abolition of UK visa requirements for holders of Irish residence permits.

Committee chairman, Seán Sherlock TD said: “The Committee’s role is to give members of the public the opportunity to place issues of concern directly before the Oireachtas and to influence changes in public policy where appropriate. We will give these petitions our full consideration before announcing, in public session, the decision on each one.”

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
