Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment to resume Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the Competition (Amendment) Bill 2021

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will resume Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Competition (Amendment) Bill 2021 when it meets tomorrow, Tuesday, 23 February.

The meeting at 10am in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House will discuss the Heads of the Bill with:

  • Representatives from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC); and
  • Representatives from the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg).

Committee Chairman Deputy Maurice Quinlivan said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to engage with representatives of the CCPC and ComReg on this Bill, which proposes to make both organisations more effective in overseeing and enforcing competition law. The Committee previously met with officials from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment as part of our scrutiny of this legislation, which is designed to transpose into Irish law the ECN+ EU directive.”

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 4 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.
