Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment to discuss Employment Permits (Consolidation and Amendment) Bill 2019 with unions and employers

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will continue Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Employment Permits (Consolidation and Amendment) Bill 2019 when it meets tomorrow, Tuesday, 9 March with representatives of the unions and employers.

The meeting at 9.30am in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will discuss the Heads of the Bill with:

  • Representatives from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU); and
  • Representatives from the Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC).

Committee Chairman Deputy Maurice Quinlivan said: “The Committee has previously heard from the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment on this Bill, which proposes to update the employment permits system. We now look forward to hearing the analysis of ICTU and IBEC on the proposals in this legislation to increase the flexibility and effectiveness of the system to respond to changes in labour supply and demand, or employment practices.”

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
