Seanad Committee to discuss the impact of Brexit with Enterprise Ireland

29 Mar 2021, 07:00

The Seanad Special Select Committee on the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union will meet this afternoon with Julie Sinnamon, Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Ireland.

The agenda for the meeting at 3pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House includes:

  • The impact of Brexit on Irish businesses;
  • Helping Irish business deal with Brexit through supports;
  • Life beyond Brexit; and
  • Opportunities for Irish businesses.

Speaking ahead of Monday’s meeting, Committee Chair Senator Lisa Chambers said: “Over the last three months since the end of the transition period, the effects of the UK leaving the EU single market and customs union have impacted heavily on businesses and trade within the island and between Ireland and Britain.

“It is important that businesses receive the necessary supports to adapt to the new trading environment they now operate in. But it is equally important that businesses develop new markets beyond Britain – and that they have the supports from Government required to explore and exploit new opportunities within the EU and globally. The Committee looks forward to discussing these matters with Ms Sinnamon and Enterprise Ireland.”

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
