Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment to discuss Loan Guarantee Schemes Agreements (Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland) Bill 2021

19 Apr 2021, 12:15

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 20 April to discuss the possibility of waiving the requirement to carry out a Pre-Legislative Scrutiny of the Loan Guarantee Schemes Agreements (Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland) Bill 2021.

The meeting, to be chaired by Deputy Maurice Quinlivan at 9.30am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House, will be briefed on the Bill by officials from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

Deputy Quinlivan said: “This legislation would allow the Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland to set up and administer a loan guarantee scheme for small and medium enterprises affected by Brexit and Covid-19. Due to the level of the current challenges faced by the SME sector and the urgent need to maintain assistance and supports to businesses, the Minister has asked that the normal requirement in relation to pre-legislative scrutiny be waived on this occasion. The Committee will consider this request and looks forward to discussing the Bill with the Department before making a recommendation on a PLS waiver to the Business Committee.”

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
