Joint Committee on Climate Action to discuss increasing wind power on the national grid

26 Apr 2021, 12:30

The Joint Committee on Climate Action will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 27 April, to discuss increasing the use of wind power on the national grid.

The meeting at 9.30am in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House will be divided into two sessions.

  • 9.30-10.30am – Noel Cunniffe, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Wind Energy Ireland.
  • 10.30-11.30am – Mark Foley, Chief Executive Officer, Eirgrid.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Leddin said: “As we move towards a carbon neutral society by 2050 and strive to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels to generate electricity, wind power offers a clean, renewable alternative to gas, oil, coal and peat-fired power stations. The Committee looks forward to discussing how we can expand the use of wind power in the coming decades to supply electricity to Ireland’s national grid.”

The meeting in the Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
