Seanad Committee to discuss Impact of Brexit on the Higher Education sector

31 May 2021, 07:00

The Seanad Special Select Committee on the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union will meet this afternoon with representatives to discuss the impact of Brexit on the Higher Education sector.

The Committee of Senators will meet at 3 pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House with representatives from the Technological Higher Education Association; the Irish Universities Association; the Higher Education Authority; Dundalk Institute of Technology; and Letterkenny Institute of Technology.

Speaking ahead of Monday’s meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Senator Lisa Chambers said: “The Committee and I are fully aware that numerous parties are working together, North and South, and the wider UK to ensure that UK and Irish students are able to avail of the options to them to study here and abroad. We need to ensure that all issues are explored and dealt with before becoming a problem, the Committee has called this meeting to do just that.”

Senator Chambers added: “The Committee looks forward to hearing from the representatives and the challenges they face since Brexit and we welcome updates on the Erasmus programme, North/South student flows, and the future, and what it holds for students and our Higher Education Sector.”

You can view the meeting in Committee Room 3 on the Oireachtas website.
