MEPs to discuss EU support post-Brexit, the NI Protocol & the Trade & Cooperation Agreement between EU and UK with Seanad Committee

The Seanad Special Select Committee on the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 8 June, with Irish MEPs to discuss the ongoing implementation of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the E.U. and the U.K.; issues surrounding the Northern Ireland Protocol; and E.U. support to assist Ireland in dealing with the challenges of Brexit.

The Committee of Senators will meet at 12:30 pm in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House with Irish Members of the European Parliament:

  • Barry Andrews MEP
  • Ciaran Cuffe MEP
  • Colm Markey MEP
  • Maria Walsh MEP

Speaking ahead of Monday’s meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Senator Lisa Chambers said: “The Committee and I welcome the opportunity to discuss the ongoing implementation of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the E.U. and the U.K.; issues surrounding the Northern Ireland Protocol; and E.U. support to assist Ireland in dealing with the challenges of Brexit. We are hoping to get an understanding at an EU level of what is truly happening on the ground around these important issues - topics crucial to the work of our Committee.”

Senator Chambers added: “The Committee looks forward to hearing from the MEPs, getting their perspective and having an informed debate.”
