13 Oct 2021, 17:15

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 14 October, to resume pre-legislative scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Circular Economy Bill.

The meeting at 5.30pm in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House will hear from Jean-Pierre Schweitzer of the European Environmental Bureau, and Mindy O’Brien, Chief Executive of Voice Ireland.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Brian Leddin said: “The Circular Economy Bill 2021 is a key step in the transition to an economy where waste and resource use can be minimised and proposes the necessary legislative basis for an alternative to the existing model of production and consumption, which is economically and environmentally unsustainable.

“Last week the Committee was briefed on the Heads of the Bill by officials from the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications. We know look forward to discussing this legislation with Mr Schweitzer and Ms O’Brien.”

The Joint Committee on Environment and Climate Action has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meetings in Committee Room 1 can be viewed live on Oireachtas.ie.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
