EU Affairs Committee to discuss migration with European Commissioner for Home Affairs

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will meet tomorrow, Tuesday February 8th, for engagement with the European Commissioner for Home Affairs.

• 10:00-11:30 - Engagement with Ylva Johansson, European Commissioner for Home Affairs, on Migration

• 11:45-13:30  - Engagement on migration (resumed) with Gonzalo Vargas Llosa, Representative for EU Affairs, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)Speaking ahead of the meeting,

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Joe McHugh said: “The Committee looks forward to engaging with European Commissioner Ylva Johansson and Gonzalo Vargos Llosa on the topic of European Union migration policies. The UNHCR have also made proposals to the Presidency on the topic of migration.” 

“We will discuss the New Pact on Migration and Asylum and how it has affected the migration and asylum context in Europe and how Member States including Ireland can contribute in light of the large number of people who have been displaced.”

“Ireland has a proud record of humanitarian work in the developing world, and we welcome the opportunity to ask representatives what we can contribute to help refugees.”
