Committee on Budgetary Oversight to meet to scrutinise the Stability Programme Update (SPU)

9 Mar 2022, 12:25

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will meet to scrutinise the Stability Programme Update (SPU) at 17:30pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

The Stability Programme Update (SPU) 2022 will be published in draft format by the Department of Finance in mid-April and will set out Ireland’s medium-term economic outlook and its fiscal plans. A final version is then published in late April and issued to the European Commission.

The publication of the SPU is considered as the beginning of the budgetary cycle for Budget 2023. The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will undertake ex-ante scrutiny of the SPU in order to understand the current fiscal context, to engage with stakeholders on these issues and to allow for greater parliamentary engagement and transparency to the budgetary process.

The Committee will hear from representatives from the Economic & Social Research Institute (ESRI).

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight has 15 Members.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
