3 May 2022, 16:10

The Joint Committee on Health will meet to discuss the recent proposed appointment of the Chief Medical Officer to a role at a higher education institution at its meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, 4 May. The proposed secondment was initially announced by the Department of Health on 22nd March, and a number of issues have since come to light in relation to the internal decision-making procedures that led to this proposed secondment.

The meeting will be broadcast from Committee Room 2 at 9:30am and will include submissions from the Secretary General of the Department of Health, Mr Robert Watt and the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Sean Crowe TD said: “The Committee looks forward to engaging with the Secretary General, Mr Robert Watt and the Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan in order to ascertain the circumstances and background decisions that were made around the establishment of the proposed role for the CMO at the third level institution.”

The Joint Committee on Health has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

You can view the meeting in Committee Room 2 on Oireachtas TV.
