Enterprise Committee to discuss offshore and renewable energy with Wind Energy Ireland

14 Jun 2022, 10:22

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will meet on Wednesday June 15th for a discussion on the Offshore Renewable Industry Forum and Ireland’s Offshore Wind Industry.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House at 09:30.

CEO of Wind Energy Ireland Noel Cunniffe will address the meeting.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Maurice Quinlivan said: “We look forward to discussing the future of wind and offshore energy with representatives – it follows the passing of the Maritime Area Planning Act by the Oireachtas late last year. This industry employs around 6,000 people from turbine manufacturers to engineering and project management."

“The Climate Action Plan sets out a target of 5,000 MW of offshore wind electricity by 2030. The war in Ukraine and climate change have shown us that we need to address our reliance on fossil fuels."

"Ireland is particularly well placed especially around the West coast to avail of wind energy and we need to take this opportunity so we can have a real positive impact on achieving our climate action goals."

"We look forward to discussing these and other related matters with representatives.”
