The Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann, Senator Mark Daly, has written to the Speaker of the House of Lords, Lord McFall, to express his condolences on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Cathaoirleach told Lord McFall: “I wish to convey my deepest sympathy and that of the members of Seanad Eireann to His Majesty King Charles III, the Royal Family, the Government of the United Kingdom and the British people on the loss of their beloved monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“Her commitment to service and the dignity with which she reigned for 70 years was unparalleled. Her Majesty's visit to Ireland in 2011 contributed greatly to the strengthening of relations between our two nations and on the island of Ireland itself. Her use of the Irish language during that visit was a symbolic gesture that was greatly appreciated by the people of Ireland.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis.”
