The Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann, Seán Ó Fearghaíl TD, has today written to the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, to express his condolences on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Ceann Comhairle told Sir Lindsay: “On my own behalf and on behalf of the Members of the 33rd Dáil I wish to offer my most sincere condolences to you and all the Members of the House of Commons on the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

“As Head of State she demonstrated magnificent and inspirational leadership skills. Her commitment to public service and the quality and duration of that service is without equal.

"Her Majesty’s visit to Ireland in 2011, which I was privileged to witness, marked a critical watershed in the relationship between our two islands. Queen Elizabeth II will be remembered in Ireland with the most enormous respect and affection, and we pray God that she is now united with her loved ones who have gone before her, in the Heavenly Kingdom in which she so fervently believed.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.”
