14 Sep 2022, 09:30

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet this evening to discuss the Nitrates Derogation and Nitrates Action Programme.

The meeting at 5.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will be split into two sessions.

5.30pm-7pm – Representatives from the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA).

7pm-8.30pm – Officials from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “It has been said the measurement of success regarding climate change and water quality will be judged on our ability to achieve these targets while continuing to produce high quality food and no impact on production. The meeting will endeavour to see how this will be achieved in the context of the Nitrates Action Programme and the Nitrates Derogation agreed with the European Commission.”

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.

The meeting in Committee Room 3 can be viewed live on Oireachtas TV.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
