EU Affairs Committee to hear from President of the European Court of Auditors Tony Murphy

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will meet on Wednesday November 23rd for engagement with President of the European Court of Auditors, Tony Murphy.

The meeting will take place between 09:30-12:30 in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House.


Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Joe McHugh said: “We welcome the opportunity to hear from an Irish member and President of the European Court of Auditors.”

“The European Court of Auditors as the independent external auditor of the EU, helps to ensure that Irish and EU citizens know how their money is being spent and scrutinises the effectiveness and efficiency of the European Union’s spending programmes.”

“We look forward to discussing the findings and recommendations of the most recent ECA Annual Report and recommendations on future spending given the rise in inflation across the Eurozone and the war in Ukraine.”

Mr Tony Murphy took up his duties as the new ECA President for a renewable three-year term on October 1st 2022. He was elected by the ECA Members in September to serve as the institution's President for the period from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2025. He is taking over from Klaus-Heiner Lehne, who had presided over the institution since 2016.
