Good Friday Committee to hear from former Irish Government officials involved with the Agreement

The Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement will meet on Thursday, January 19th to continue its series of engagements with architects of the Good Friday Agreement.

Dr. Martin Mansergh, Ambassador Eamonn McKee, and Walter Kirwan a retired senior official at the Department of An Taoiseach will address the meeting.


The meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House between 13:30 - 16:30.


Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Fergus O’Dowd said: “We look forward to continuing our series of meetings with architects of the Good Friday Agreement. Last term, we heard from a range of politicians and officials involved in the Agreement.”


“This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement so we welcome the opportunity to hear from some of the key officials and public servants that worked on getting the Agreement in place and to hear their reflections on the work they carried out.”


The Committee has already heard from Bertie Ahern, John Bruton, George Mitchell, Mark Durkan, Lord Alderdice, Jonathan Powell and Tim O’Connor.

It will continue to meet with a range of people involved in the negotiations, including the politicians involved, diplomats and civil servants in the coming term.
