The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will meet twice this week for separate engagements on investment funds and the property market, and AIB debt-right down policy.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, 1 March, the Committee will meet at 1.30pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House for a discussion on investment funds and the property market with Mr David Hall, Co-Founder of Irish Mortgage Holders Organisation; Mr Brendan Burgess, Consumer Advocate; and Mr Padraic Kissane, Financial Advisor.

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy John McGuinness said: “The Committee welcomes this opportunity to discuss the impact and risks of non-bank and investment funds in the property market. Members will examine the impact upon household mortgages, especially regarding the current difficulties experienced due to increasing mortgage interest rates.

“This meeting will be the first of several on the topic and the Committee looks forward to a wide-ranging and informative discussing with Mr Hall, Mr Burgess and Mr Kissane.”

On Thursday, 2 March, the Committee will meet at 1.30pm in Committee Room 2 with representatives of AIB to discuss debt write-down policy.

Deputy McGuinness said: “The Committee has sought this meeting with AIB to discuss their policy regarding debt write-downs, in particular the regularity of large debt write-downs and the formula and methodology used in the debt resolution process.”
