8 May 2023, 18:03

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence will meet on Tuesday May 9th with representatives from the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) to discuss their recent publications on hybrid threats and threats to the national infrastructure.

The IIEA is a public policy and international affairs think tank in Dublin

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House between 15:15-18:15.

The following representatives are due to appear.

  • Cian FitzGerald, Security and Defence Researcher at the IIEA
  • Barry Colfer, Director of Research at the IIEA

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Charlie Flanagan said: “We welcome the opportunity to discuss this important report with the IIEA which examines the threat posed to critical energy infrastructure and Irish society by hostile cyber activities. As the war continues in Ukraine, Russia may increasingly seek to use other means to achieve its political aims by targeting European states such as Ireland. It is crucial that the State is prepared for potential threats to our energy security and national infrastructure.”
