Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment to discuss employment strategy for persons with a disability (resumed)

16 May 2023, 13:47

The Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment will meet on Wednesday May 17th to resume discussion on the employment strategy for persons with a disability.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House between 09:30-12-30.

The Committee will hear from representatives from:

  • The National Council of the Blind of Ireland
  • The Open Doors Initiative

Speaking ahead of the meeting Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Maurice Quinlivan said: “The Comprehensive Employment Strategy for People with Disabilities (2015-2024) is in place to address the barriers and challenges to the employment of disabled people. Three year action plans have been developed for the Comprehensive Employment Strategy. The final three-year action plan for 2022-2024 is currently under development. The previous three year action plan ran from 2019 to 2021.”

“We look forward to getting first-hand feedback from the representatives from the National Council of the Blind of Ireland and The Open Doors Initiative on just how accessible the opportunities for people with disabilities who are trying to gain employment in Ireland actually are. We will seek their insights on how they feel the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and the Government can help develop, promote and maintain employment for persons with a disability.”
