Joint Committee on Autism to resume discussions on Autism Policy with Minister Foley and Minister of State Butler

The Joint Committee on Autism will meet at 11am tomorrow, Tuesday, 23 May, to resume discussions on Autism Policy with separate engagements with the Minister for Education and the Minister of State at the Department of Health with special responsibility for Mental Health and Older People.

The meeting will hear in Committee Room 4 of Leinster House will be split into two sessions:

  • 11am – Mary Butler TD, Minister of State at the Department of Health;
  • 12.30pm – Normal Foley TD, Minister for Education.

Committee Cathaoirleach Senator Micheál Carrigy said: “The Committee welcomes these further engagements with the Minister for Education and Minister for State. Members look forward to discussing with Minister Foley the need for long-term planning for autistic children within the education system.

“Before that, the Committee will discuss Mental Health issues with Minister of State Butler as autism often co-occurs with mental health conditions. Members would like to hear the if the HSE in a position to support autistic people and if CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) will be able to provide support for autistic people.”

The Joint Committee on Autism has 13 Members, eight from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
