Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Michael Moynihan said: “We welcome the opportunity to resume our discussion on DPOs and the implementation of the UNCRPD. We are pleased to have Frances Quan Farrant give the Australian perspective on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities."

Ireland’s obligations under the UNCRPD are to ensure that State invests in policies, practices, and supports to include disabled people in society as equals. A key part of the UNCRPD will be the full and effective participation of disabled people in the design, delivering and monitoring of policy at a local, regional and national level. The statement, ‘nothing about us without us’ can only become a reality if there is investment to ensure disabled people are resourced in order to make their voices heard.”
