Social Protection Committee to the Safe Deposit Boxes and Related Deposits Bill 2022 with representatives from the Banking and Payments Federation of Ireland

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Denis Naughten said: “The BPFI made a detailed submission to the Committee on the Safety Deposit Boxes and Related Deposits Bill which set out the sector’s position. The BPFI is seeking to work with the Committee and relevant departments to agree a workable and pragmatic approach to dealing with the issues arising and the legacy arrangements that exist regarding items held by members in safekeeping and in safety deposit boxes.”

“The BPFI has raised the need for indemnification across the Bill and the complexities posed by some of the process proposed in the Bill so we look forward to discussing these and other related matters with representatives.”
