Our role

Business Committee

After its weekly meeting, the Business Committee lays a report which lists the business that will be taken in the Dáil for the following week.

The Business Committee considers, among other things, proposals for

  • dealing with items of business, including speaking times
  • taking legislation in the Dáil and Select Committees
  • sitting times and adjournments
  • selection of business for Thursday afternoons, such as Private Members’ Bills or committee reports

Members who wish to have a Bill or a committee report considered on a Thursday afternoon should give notice to the Business Committee.

The complete rules on the Business Committee are in Dáil Standing Orders 28 to 34.
