Vol. 2 No. 31

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - ANNUITIES ON GALWAY ESTATE.

To ask the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that in the case of the following tenants on the Comyn Estate, Kilconnell, Ballinasloe, the amounts payable by way of annuity have been raised by the Congested Districts Board, as follows:—

Patrick Kelly, increased from £22 2s. to £33 14s.

Joseph Kelly, increased from £26 15s. to £40.

Mrs. Donelan, increased from £22 10s. to £35 15s.

and if so, will the Minister explain the circumstances under which these increased payments have been demanded.

The tenants referred to refused to sign purchase agreements in accordance with their undertakings, and following the general practice they are now required to pay the full statutory rents of their holdings instead of interest.

The amounts now payable are overstated, in the question; the correct amounts are:—

Patrick Kelly

£30

Joseph Kelly

30

Mrs. Donelan

26

In Patrick Kelly's case, the original interest of £22 5s. 6d. payable was later increased to £27 5s. 2d. on account of advances for buildings on the holding made by the Congested Districts Board.

In Joseph Kelly's case, for the same reason, the original interest of £22 12s. 10d. was increased to £27 16s. 10d.
