asked the Minister for Agriculture if in compliance with the statement in the Governor-General's speech, it is the intention of the Government to introduce at an early date legislation which will have for its object the compulsory grading and branding of Irish export butter, and the grading and regulation of the Irish export egg trade, and, if so, what is the approximate date of the introduction of such legislation.
CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GRADING OF BUTTER AND EGGS.
The preparation of legislative proposals based on the Ad Interim Reports of the Commission on Agriculture, dealing with butter and eggs is at present engaging the careful attention of the Department of Agriculture, and considerable progress has been made in the matter.
It is, however, not yet practicable to indicate the date by which a Bill or Bills embodying the Government's proposals will be ready for submission to the Oireachtas. Both of these Bills raise very important questions of policy.
