Vol. 6 No. 25

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CASTLEJORDAN (CO. MEATH) POSTAL FACILITIES.

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the great necessity which exists for a P.O. Money Order Office and Telephone Office at Castlejordan, Co. Meath, he is in a position to reconsider his reply to the recent petition forwarded to him by the people of that district, which is one of the most thickly populated in the county.

I find that there is no good case for the opening of a Sub-Post Office at Castlejordan, which is distant only one and a half miles from an existing office. The estimated amount of Money Order business likely to arise would not be nearly sufficient to justify the extension of the Money Order business to Castlejordan, while the capital cost and annual charges which the establishment of a Telephone Call Office would involve are out of all proportion to the estimated receipts. Moreover, the present Postal Service in the locality is carried on at a considerable loss to the Revenue.
